SPECIAL REPORT Bank One lures in Nortel’s global PR director for VP Job By Andrew Gordon WILMINGTON, DE: David Chamberlin has left Nortel Networks, where he was director of global communications, to join Bank One as VP of PR in its card- services division. Bank One is one of the largest global issuers of Visa cards, and Chamberlin explained that he took the job not just to work with Bank One, but also the numerous companies that create cobranded Visa cards with Bank One. “This will give me the chance to work with some of the best brands in the world,” said Chamberlin, who worked for Burson-Marsteller before joining Nortel. “I’ll be creating strategic PR campaigns for Bank One and its partners.” Amazon.com, United Air lines, and Ann Taylor are among more than 1,200 companies that cobrand Bank One credit cards for its 53 million cardholders. David Webster, SVP of business affairs for card services, said one of the first campaigns Chamberlin will work on is the new cobranded Disney card. “We are also engaged in a brand-building effort to make Bank One one of America’s value brands,” said Webster. “David brings the values that will help us do that.” Nortel director of corporate communications Tina Warren will take over many of Chamberlin’s duties in the interim, though no decision has been made as to whether his position will be filled, Chamberlin said.
A Note To JC&A from David Webster, SVP of Business Affairs for Card Services: “Ms. Judith Cushman, President, Judith Cushman & Associates, Seattle, Washington assisted us in the search.
