The Ballet I took my first ballet lessons as an eight year old and demonstrated no particular talent as a dancer. However, the love of ballet began then and has been an ongoing commitment. Several years ago, I participated as a pro-bono search consultant to the Pacific Northwest Ballet in the selection of Peter Boal, the Artistic Director. I have become more involved since as a “Member of the Barre.” Peter’s vision is that ballet should be accessible and reach the widest audiences. With the cut in government funding for the arts, organizations are scrambling to find new sources of support and new audiences. Working with PNB’s development department, we are beginning a new program turning the fundraising model upside down. Instead of seeking major donors, the program I am working with the Pacific Northwest Ballet to develop, starts from the bottom and works up. Called, “The Business Member Program,” the Pacific Northwest Ballet is offering small businesses, for as little as $500 annually, the opportunity for their employees to enjoy the ballet, attend events for reduced fees and participate in special programs. Our next Business Member Night Reception will be March, 2008. Companies interested in joining the program may contact me and I will arrange for a member of the development staff to speak with the potential sponsor. |
