Feedback June 2006 Archive June 20, 2006 [Anonymous Contributor] I don’t know how I wound up on your distribution list long ago. I seem to recall a conversation several years back. Whatever the occasion was, I just wanted to let you know that I do enjoy and appreciate the updates. It’s always interesting to read your observations. June 20, 2006 [Anonymous Contributor] You have -- and I suppose have always had -- a special way of sifting the wheat from the chaff in the industry. My current peeve is telephone interviews -- when the interviewer is obviously distracted and looking at email/web sites. Would s/he do this to a Sales Rep they were aggressively trying to hire? Never. It's a B.S. marketing ploy. You have a book in you -- in your ideas and your work. You could do it easily. And you'd have plenty of case studies and stories to provide real examples of how to/how not to recruit. Perhaps the Univ. of Washington Press and a solid outreach program. I'd buy and distribute 5-10 copies and I'm sure many others would. Always insightful and idea-laden writing. And the encouragement to do better is your *between the lines* ideation. Thanks for the consistent, enlightening writing and inspiration. I wish more people (marketing "pros") would read your writings and do things differently. June 19, 2006 [Anonymous Contributor] As head of global public relations, I receive a lot of email. And quite a lot of spam. How your email made it through my company's filter, I'll never know. But I'm thankful it did! It is incredibly refreshing to hear an honest voice. Your words ring loud and clear. Your insights are on track: job market, values, culture, men, instinct and salaries. And don't get me started on the health care industry. I spent 14 years making the rounds at a teaching hospital, school of medicine, HMO, life insurance company and an affiliate of the AMA. I am now experiencing the wonders and joy of being at a B2B with trade reporters who feel bad when they give me a week to respond to a deadline. In my former life, I was usually given less than an hour. I'm sure you are familiar with that as a former reporter. So - thank you. Thank you for sending your email, and the links to your web site and blog. It was an absolute pleasure reading your prose. My plate is over flowing, we are short staffed, and an international crisis is looming. But I took the time to read it anyway. Please continue writing. Please continue publishing. And please keep your voice out there loud and clear. I will make the time to listen, I'd like to SUBSCRIBE. I've already sent your email to several colleagues, and a student I'm mentoring long distance. June 19, 2006 [Anonymous Contributor] Judy - I enjoyed your comments, thank you. I think 9/11 had a profound effect on me and what is important. Money and position isn't the end-all, be-all. However, I am finding that balance is hard to maintain- I miss some of the thrill and passion/engagement the challenges of work offer as a result of my decision to try for more balance. An ongoing issue. At any rate, I enjoyed reading your newsletter. [JUDY] Thank you for your comments. I wonder how that focus has affected your department? Sometimes the team breathes a sigh of relief when the leader works toward balance and sets an example. When the head of a department puts in all sorts of hours, the staff sometimes feels they need to which leads to problems. So, that might be a plus to your decision-a better functioning, happier group. I think, Judy, my group likes the "fairness" of everything - if I am striving for balance, they have a right to more balance as well. |
